Erica DiCarlo: Turning A Mess Into A Message

Oblivion: The Deadliest of Plagues

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV)

ignorant

Futile and fumbling we all need to be saved;
Arrogantly and ignorantly, that’s how we’ve always behaved.
Yet we act like we are so powerful;
We fake it like it’s real.
We curse the remedy to our suffering;
We prefer to remain in our sickness instead of ask for the One who can heal.
Pointless riddles have become our favorite past time;
Truth is hidden under foot.
Every step we take in pride lead us farther from our roots.
God forgive them…
The “wise”, the “mighty”, the ones who assume they are ahead;
The ones who would willingly waltz right into hell than into your kingdom if they simply learned to be led.
Have You not made foolish the wisdom of this world?
Why can’t they see they will come to nothing?
All the labels, all the empires, all the hatred…. All for nothing?

michaek

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)

God thank You for Your Power, thank You for your grace;
Help us frail human beings to stand firm in this place.
The devil has deceived so many, just like I was once led far away from You;
Convinced them that their idea of knowledge somehow makes what they understand to be true.
A lie is never the truth even if told a thousand times;
What we see isn’t what we always get, God help them read between the lines.

For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.“ For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 15:3 – 15:6 NKJV)

The Gospel aka the Good News, God why won’t they just receive?
We will all stand before the judgement seat of Christ, regardless of what we believe.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation (2 Corinthians 1:3-1:7 NKJV)

God, You make beauty from ashes, a message of our mess;
Help all to hear You in the darkness and let them all confess….
That they cannot be You in any way; they must be able to be led.
That they labor in vain to reach Your heart because Christ’s blood has already been shed.
Sound the alarm God, please wake this world from their sleep;
You have promised us redemption in Jesus;
Every promise You make, you keep.

Get right with God before you get left;
Forever in your worst nightmare and a victim of identity theft.
The devil may be a liar, but what then does that make you?

Easily fooled and only left out of God’s kingdom because you CHOSE to….listen to yourself instead of to your creator; To accept that Jesus came to rectify your selfishness and your reckless behavior.

WAKE UP WORLD!

20140208-093135.jpg

God loves you. Do you love Him back? Get honest with yourself and let Christ give you what you lack….

But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. (2 Corinthians 1:4-7)

It’s Gotta Change

Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.”

John‬ ‭20:11-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“DO NOT, BUT GO”

Jesus uses these words so often in both the Bible and in my personal walk with Him every day. I was thinking a lot this morning about how big of an impact these four little words have had on me personally and in all those the Lord councils if they allow Him.

Jesus will always start with telling you the behaviors and the feelings you are investing in that are not productive and have no purpose. If we allow Him to finish without getting upset, He will then go on to tell us the correct course of action to allow us to walk into our purpose and into His promises over our lives.

The more I thought about it, I realized that this really is like coaching at it’s finest. When pursuing a new sport, although we may be passionate about playing the game, it doesn’t mean we know how to play well just yet. It takes hard work to be good at anything new and even though we won’ t be MVP right away, if we are coach-able and willing to learn, eventually we will get there, Just like any good coach, God will tell us “no” or “do not” for reasons we can’t see just yet in order to better our performance. . He is the one with the knowledge we need to properly navigate through our situations. We, unfortunately,would rather skip practice and get to winning already. We are not interested in being coached by anyone. Instead, we look around desperately for cheerleaders in order to feel validated and reassured of abilities we think we already have.

When we are over confident in the conclusions we have made about ourselves, others, or our circumstances, hearing God say “no” or “do not” causes us to immediately attribute His answer to our personal inability or inadequacy. God can’t even finish speaking the “but go” into our circumstances, because we stopped listening at “do not”.

Due to our feeling rejected or insecure when things don’t go our way; we end up shutting down and backing away from things that challenge us instead of sticking them out long enough to hear the rest of what God has to say about the purpose of those challenges. Things that are uncomfortable or uncertain are a struggle and all struggles involve a certain level of suffering in order to have a purpose.

We never lose our purpose, but we often lose the proper outlet for it. When we can’t recognize glory in certain times or even people we once felt confident in, we lose our passion to push through the uncertainty to avoid failure. When you have the passion to pursue what’s important to you, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes, including failing a million times until you get it right.

If God requires us to suffer for a season, we must know that there is a purpose and eventually that season’s gotta change. When God is involved we know that all things work together for our good and regardless of our present pain, we know that joy comes in the end. If we are willing to be changed and passionate about making a change in this world, we need to be unshakable in our faith. We need to be open to moving away from the current season of weeping and start walking into the next season of witnessing.

Suffering is certain in any situation, but God will not allow us to suffer unless there is a purpose. He tells us “do not” for a reason. It is never about what you can’t do, it is always about what you will do if we do it His way. The right way.

God will never leave you with a “no” or “do not”. There will always be a “but go” , just not always on our terms. Know that God is faithful no matter your present pain. We may not be where we thought we would be, but faith in His promises requires us to keep walking even while we are weeping. The suffering is just a season and if we trust in God, we know that eventually it’s gotta change. He may pause you, but He will never stop you. We cannot have passion without suffering.

Walk on warriors. His ways are not our ways. Because you have been broken because you have been hurt, you have been qualified to go to the next level.

Painting The Roses Red

“As much as we thirst for approval we dread condemnation.” -Hans Selye

20140607-133623-48983363.jpg

God has really put it on my heart to write on the subject of honesty.

While witnessing to several people over this past month, I noticed that the majority of them seemed to share the same feelings of unworthiness and regret.

Worse however, they all seem to be in the same season of denial in regards to their situations.

In one way or another, each person had expressed to me that they were feeling lost. That they could not seem to find one glimmer of hope. Absent of faith and out of patience.

Immediately a familiar song, “Painting The Roses Red” , from Lewis Carroll’s Alice and Wonderland popped into my head.

(Click the link above to view lyrics)

Many people claim to be living a happy life, but in actuality they are only hiding behind the walls of what they believe happiness should look like to others.

If we are living only on the outside, but dying on the inside, that kind of suffering can only remain undetected for so long.

When we try to paint our hearts red (full of love, God, goodness and purpose) but can’t even feel them beating in our chests, we set ourselves up for inevitable damage.

When our lives become more like lies then we need to be aware that God eventually will expect us to reveal our true colors.

If we do not get honest with ourselves and others willingly, God will most definitely allow circumstances in our lives to do it for us.

20140607-094214-34934479.jpg

“The white rose is the symbol of purity and innocence. However, if everyone were to be a white rose, none would truly be white. We grow, we make mistakes, and who doesn’t bleed nor have a scar? Painting the roses red is our cycle of life in all it’s mystery.
Everyday of life is another day towards deaths arms…Are you living or dying?
Reality: Life is the ONLY most contradicting phenomena ever.
How good of a painter are you?”- Philosophy by MKR

James 4:6 – God shows favor to the humble and oppressed

The reason our faith grows grey and our hearts lose their beat is not because God has forgotten about us or because we are not useful to Him any longer.

Faith fades when we suffocate our spirit and live to serve our flesh.

If we lose hope in God then that means we have put too much of it in the world.

We cannot be two shades of ourselves in this life. If we are on fire for God and trust in His plans for us, the embers of that fire should burn brightly for the world to see!

If we refuse to be the color God needs us to be in a black and white world, we cannot be surprised when we are left feeling dull, inadequate, or bored while others beautifully color the pages.

“The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw.” -Havelock Ellis

God knows your heart, your desires, and your priorities.

He created us all with beautiful flaws, each of us a unique shade of who He is, and collectively we are breathtaking by His design.

“Lean too much on the approval of people, and it becomes a bed of thorns.” -Tehyi Hsieh

If your heart is hurting, don’t paint a coat of denial over it thinking nobody will notice.

God knows what is underneath.

Be sure you remain true to what’s right; remain true to the truth.

Short cuts to happiness will only leave you with short term happiness.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Maryanne Williamson

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

At Peace While In Pieces

“Change is certain. Peace is followed by disturbances; departure of evil men by their return. Such recurrences should not constitute occasions for sadness but realities for awareness, so that one may be happy in the interim.” -Percy Bysshe Shelley

“Curse war, pray for peace, and may the Lord have mercy on our souls.” -Unknown

You are very much in a position of power at this time of feeling powerless.

Trust God.

He is in control and through you will execute His power.

Choose to listen to the voice of truth that victory is assured and guard yourselves against the whispers from the enemy that you will never make it through.

Chin up soldiers. We were born for a time such as this.

“Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him, ” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”

Breaking Away From They

As you start your day, your week, your mission,  this new season, be sure that what you are laboring for is also laboring for you!

If you’re a bit sick to your stomach from all that is going on around you and a bit heavy laden from what lies before you on that never ending “to do list”, rest assured that all of us are also feeling very much overwhelmed.

While this pandemic is by all means relentless, we must not forget that the love of our heavenly Father is far more relentless and that He is mighty to save.

How can one be saved though if they refuse to call out for help?

How can we go on about our daily lives in fear, while pretending we have it all together?

This happened every year when they went to the Lord ‘s house in Shiloh. Peninnah would say bad things to Hannah to cause her to cry.

Then Hannah would not eat anything. Hannah’s husband, Elkanah said to her ‘I do not know why you are crying. I do not know why you are not eating. You should not be sad. I am better than 10 sons.’

One day they were at Shiloh. They had finished eating and drinking. Hannah stood up. Eli the priest was sitting by the door of the Lord ‘s temple. Hannah was very, very sad. She cried very much and she prayed to the Lord.

And she said a promise to God. She prayed, ‘You are the Lord Almighty. See how sad I am. I am your servant. Remember me and do not forget me. Please give a son to me. If you do that, I will give him back to you for all of his life. Nobody will ever cut his hair

– ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭1:7-11‬

All the times you think you are waiting on God He is actually waiting on you…to speak up!

God cannot address the sorrow, the pain, the bitterness or the confusion we choose to bury down in our hearts and try to block away from our minds.

The enemy is a thief and a liar, but sometimes  it’s God that allows us to walk though unpleasant circumstances in order to provoke us to reach our breaking point.

The point where, like in the above passage, Hannah finally reaches after years of being provoked and prevented from properly giving her sorrow over to Lord.

The point where we ourselves stand up and open our mouths to confront Him about things that have been weighing us down.

We cannot stay in the place we are or operate the same anymore and shout

THAT’S ENOUGH!

God…

“I cant do this anymore!”

“I want to know why my friend is sick?”

“Why did my family have to go through this?”

“Why is all this happening to me when I had it all together?”

This direct confrontation with Him about our private pain, sorrow or rage not only brings us back from self reliance and back into His arms and protection, but it allows us to be honest with ourselves about the things we often try to distract ourselves from, but then wonder why things never seem to change.

A direct confrontation with what is holding us back is what will allow us to walk forward into Gods promises over our lives.

We must ask God to use our suffering as a seed. The fruit that grows from sharing our story with others does not go to us it goes back to God where in belongs.

He gets the credit not us and His people seek His face not the strength of us or other people.

Asking God to relieve you of your circumstances so that you can feel better about  your own works or to spare your ego will leave you unanswered and in turn resentful.

I too am very familiar with what it is to be priority challenged. Sometimes, actually, most of the time, I find myself easily getting  lost in the world’s whirl wind of distractions.

C25819F1-21AB-4C22-8F1B-54E9FCAF4841

Now more than ever it is critical that we focus on today and that we begin to

Break Away From They

Theyare those that tell you it is hopeless or you never will.

Theyare toxic relationships or friendships that block you from spending time with God so He may reveal to you the mighty purpose He has on your life.

Today, no matter how small it may seem to you in comparison to the big mess our world Is in, make sure that you make it a priority to do something to

Break Away From They

Theybeing old patterns of your own behavior that have you stuck on settling.

Most of us work so hard at anything to try and feel alive and that we have a bigger purpose. We often toil in vain and are only left feeling drained and defeated while doing a whole lot of nothing at all.

There is no peace without purpose and there is no purpose without a plan.

As we walk through this season let us ask the Lord to restore in us our passion and reveal to us our purpose.

Let us never stop praising Him in our progress and loving one another in our pursuit of breaking away from they.

To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

(Colossians 1:29 NKJV)

Metamorphosis

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy”

-Ephesians 4:21-24

I try to catch my breath, but the silence comes to steal it. I try to hear my heart beat, but the pain won’t let me feel it.

Darkness surrounds me and the pressure closes in. I pray for relief, only with The Lord will I win.

This battle with my mind and my ever breaking heart. Why does it seem as though my entire world is coming apart?

On my own I am not able. By myself I am weak. I try so hard to be strong as these tears roll down my cheeks.

Change is intimidating and the walls look too high. Metamorphosis is the only way I’ll see the wings I need to fly. Over these mountains of sorrow and the roaring sea of confusion. God again reminds me of the truth and that fear is just an illusion.

I must endure suffocation in order to appreciate the air. I must be lonely for a moment if I am to one day meet you there.

On the other side of empty, on the other end of ending. My heart feels like it is breaking, but I know it’s only bending.

I’m learning to love both the darkness and the light. I’m learning love is preparing me and there is no need to fight.

When loss has overtaken me and I am all alone. I look to The Lord as He keeps calling me home.

To a place without sufferning, a place without tears. Where life is not limited by months, by years.

As I walk through this season, I will trust you when you say. Though I am a caterpillar now, I will be a beautiful butterfly some day.

Turning Your Mess Into Your Message

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad – for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world (1 Peter 4:12 – 4:13 NLT)

So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. (1 Peter 4:19 NLT)

While I Was Waiting

IMG_1989.JPG

Tonight was both one of the most amazing nights I have had in a long time as well as one of the most disturbing.
It all started this afternoon when I got the news that God has blessed me with yet another new job opportunity! I have been offered the position of house manager at a Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility here in So Cal. The pay is significantly more than what I have been making this last year and I am now able to make a career out of encouraging others! Not only will I be mentoring clients in their recovery from addiction, but more importantly I will be helping them strengthen their walk with Jesus. I can humbly say it is a privilege to be able to do such intimate work for The Lord and only because I too have been where these clients are now.

As you all know, the whole foundation of my ministry/radio show is built upon the truth that only God can turn your mess into a beautiful message! He has done it for me once again this last few months.

My dads passing away last month has been the most heart breaking experience I have ever walked out. Thank God for my training up in faith or else I would never have had the ability to stand after such a blow to my spirit.

The death of our flesh is not the end of our lives, but rather the beginning of them. Jesus has conquered every thing that tries to keep us from Him including the grave. Death has lost it’s sting and I can find joy in Him. In truth.

But what about the ones who don’t know Jesus? Where do these people find hope when lost in despair?
What about those who think this life is all there is?
What about the ones the devil has convinced will never make it or that they couldn’t if they wanted to?

Well…
I have been wanting to see my favorite band, The Kooks, live in concert for years, but have never been able to afford tickets. My sister was able to get us cheap tickets a couple months back and blessed me with the opportunity to go see them tonight!

Needless to say the show was epic! For the first time since my dad passed away last month, I actually danced like no one was around, laughed along side my twin sister and good friend/room mate and whole heartedly enjoyed being amongst a big crowd of strangers.

While I was waiting for the show to start, I spent about an hour and a half out on the venue’s patio chatting with my sister and my friend.

In my life and in ministry, God often places me in large crowds of different people, but all of which suffer from the same type of spiritual warfare.

My experience on a night out can be very different than others and it usually is. Tonight was so exception.

A few random guys walked up and began talking to us about which band we came to see. The venue had different rooms for different artists so the crowd was… Colorful you could say….

These guys said they were seeing a rap artist called Brotha Lynch Hung…Apparently the hottest new rapper with a huge following.

I mentioned I had never heard of him and one guy began to tell me why I should listen to him and why he is the best rapper… (This list is real)
1) he raps about cannabalism
2) he raps about “crock rocks” – a combination of smoking bath salts and crack
3) he is a crack head
4) he is high on MDMA when performing
5) it’s not what he raps about, but it is what he raps about…
(Huh?)

As this guy is rambling on about this rappers “talent”, he then casually mentions that one time while high on bath salts someone had ate the face off someone.

I looked at him and asked him why canabalism and being a crack head were appealing to him and he said it’s just the new thing these days…. While wearing a rosary around his neck….
I grabbed it and asked him if Jesus meant anything to him or if he just sport the cross as a necklace? He said he was a Christian…. Or whatever. I nodded in utter disbelief then he walked away…

IMG_1991-0.JPG

Shortly after, another young guy asked us if had a lighter he could use to smoke his weed… I said no and suggested maybe he should just not smoke weed. He walked away, came back with a lighter and then blew weed smoke in my face. I asked him to take it elsewhere and that pot is lame contrary to what the “cool kids” are saying these days. He then got offended by my asking him to not smoke pot anywhere near me… He was offended…

This is our youth ladies and gentlemen.
They would rather medicate themselves with bath salts, eat each other’s faces and listen to songs about cannabalism than be accountable for anything that takes guts or application.

Jesus is the problem? Let’s purge Christianity/God and humility out of schools so you can make more room for this filth in your classrooms and venues?

IMG_0926.JPG

The utter lack of feeling anything for anyone but yourself is sick and it’s spreading like a plague. People are not dumb, they are worse.. They are numb.

All those who think they can run things better without God better Get a clue before anymore kids kill themselves on your watch.

Jesus brings life. We seek to mock it, mutilate it and eventually destroy it.

Just saying… This happened tonight. What happens tomorrow??

Nicholas DiCarlo- My Father, My Hero

I’ve loved one person unconditionally. He’s the most caring, and generous, and charming and flat out the funniest guy I’ll ever know…he’s my father.
-NL

20140615-040606-14766892.jpg

My dad has never failed at being the most amazing father a girl could ask for.
I have been through so much in my life, especially over the last 10 years, and there is not a single person who has continued to love me the way he loves me.

MARGARET TRUMAN-
It’s only when you grow up and step back from him–or leave him for your own home–it’s only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it.

20140615-041743-15463232.jpg

My dad has remained the one person I trust with not only my heart, but with my brokenness. He has seen me at my worst, yet he always sees the best in me. If ever I am in trouble, he willingly holds his hand out for me to grab to return to safety.

There are things in life which have caused me to lose most of my hope in men and even wonder if good men really exist?! When I look at my dad, all of that doubt disappears.
He truly is all of the proof I need….

20140615-042552-15952278.jpg

My heart was broken; he was there to mend it.
My purpose was lost; he was there to help me recover it.
My past had destroyed my spirit; he helped me rekindle it.
My friends and family gave up on me; he wouldn’t even imagine it.

FANNY FERN-
To her, the name of father was another name for love.

Dad,

This Father’s Day I couldn’t buy you a gift or even see you so I could tell you how much I love you… But I do.
I love you so very much that I wanted
the world to know.

This blog post barely touches on the impact you have had on my growth, on my heart, and in my life.
I thank God for you every day, but I am especially grateful on this one.

May you be blessed, know that I admire you, and be sure that there is no one I appreciate more in my life than you.
You are amazing Daddio.

It is Finished!

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, “as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was (John 17:1 – 17:5 NKJV)

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield (Psalm 5:11 – 5:12 NKJV)
