“A good sacrifice is one that is not necessarily sound but leaves your opponent dazed and confused.” –Nigel Short

Imagine the worst day you have ever had, now recall one of your best.
Reflect on when you were the smartest in your class, now relive the way your stomach sank when told you didn’t pass.
Stop.
Take a deep breath of the air you need to survive , pause and exhale.
In that moment you experience the feeling of greatness become your worst nightmare.
Chances are we don’t record our actions daily, but wouldn’t anyway because we are all a bit lazy.

God, however, already has all our records even the ones we think we have hidden.
He has seen all our sunrises and every dark night we’ve sat up in.
He has done it all first, right here in the flesh.
He freely gave away the things that make us so selfish.
In the flesh means just as we are,
The emotions, the temptations, the wanting to give up and just run somewhere fast somewhere far.
The ugly people we choose to be left Him without a choice. Not one.
He was laughed at by such people while He willingly hung.
God went through it so we can get to it.
Our lives are tough because we were the ones who blew it.
By grace He mirrored our struggle so we weren’t alone in our pain.
He left a journal so we could read about the sunshine that follows the rain.
All we are is what He knew we would be,
The author became a character in His
Book so we could too could be in the story.
Next time you sip on fine wine or are dying of thirst,
Pause and remember that God Himself experienced both first.

Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Trust

“A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

I am one woman
I have one voice.
I have two options
Everyday I make a choice.
To trust in a God and blindly follow
Or to see my way through a world leaving my soul feeling hollow.
To trust in a God who I can’t hold or hear
Or to lean on a reasoning justified by my fear.
I am one woman
I have one voice.
I have two options
Everday I make a choice.
To trust in a God who has written my salvation
Or to continue to rot in self condemnation.
To trust in a God who holds the stars in His hands
Or to cater to people and their petty demands.
I am one woman
I have one voice
I don’t need to have options
To trust God is my choice.

If You Can’t Stop At Least Smile As You Go By

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. – 1 Cor. 13:13

WhatChristiansWantToKnow.com

It is getting harder and harder to feel anything anymore unless it is irritation or defeat. It is bad enough I have to try to fake a smile at a loved one, let alone someone I just meet.

What has become of love and where has it hidden? What has happened to my prince charming or the friends I used to confide in? I know that with time I will trust and with hope I will believe, but recent disappoinments have left my heart here to bleed.

How did You do it? God how did You dare? To continually open Your House to all of us when we leave You sitting alone up there? We complain about a break up or cry over a lost possesion You day after day get the slip from one of us, your most prized obsessions.

There are so many things that have hardened our hearts, Yet our daily activities are ripping Yours apart. If we could just try to be a little more like You, maybe love would not have the sour taste people are accustomed to. If we could think of who provides what we lack and answers our calls, Who gives us the shelter from the hurricane as the heavy rain falls.

We can have faith in You or hope we find our way, but it is clear that love is most vital to survive in this world today. You are the One who gives water to those who thirst, the One who feeds the birds, the ones who came first. Why is it so hard to offer the same on our own? Why do we refuse to be good company and still become bitter all alone?

For us, for love you let Jesus take the heat. For the sake of our salvation you gave us the victory of a battle we chose to end in our defeat. I pray for an understanding God and a courage to walk the miles. I pray for the ability to mimic such a love for the ones who suffer in never ending trials.

How do You do it? God how do You dare? To continually open Your House to all of us when we leave You sitting alone up there?

Poem inspired by Christian artist Charismatik and their lyrics to the song “Tne Greatest Of These”

“The Greatest of These”

If I can fathom the deepest mysteries
And have a knowledge of ancient histories
But I have not love
I am nothing
If I have faith that can move mountains
And gifts that are abounding
But I have not love
I am nothing
And if I give everything I have
Away to the poor
If I give it all away so that I have no more
If I do all that and I have not love
I am nothing
Knowledge just won’t last
It will become part of the past
Some day the gifts will cease
And they will rest in peace
But love, love will never fail
It will always prevail
More than any you can think of
The greatest of these… is love
And now I’m something
The greatest of these is love (repeat)

“Just as in earthly life lovers long for the moment when they are able to breathe forth their love for each other, to let their souls blend in a soft whisper, so the mystic longs for the moment when in prayer he can, as it were, creep into God.” -Soren Kierkegaard

Forever Faithful

“But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”
(NLT) Isaiah 43:1-2
We sometimes think that God is too far away to help us when we enter times of turmoil, that He is in Heaven and that we are here all alone. The distance between us and God is actually not only the opposite, but it is also non existent.

God is right here. He is very much present in our lives and He is always aware of our situations. He is able to rectify whatever problems present themselves, it is just a matter of us asking Him and if what we are in fact asking for aligns with the betterment of ourselves and our lives.

I have had many prayers feel like they were unheard or bouncing off some imaginary wall and returned right back. In a relationship I would pray for Him to convict the heart of someone who was hurting me so it would work. but the next day I got left. In my place of previous employment I would pray for an advancement, but end up working for 17 hours doing manager’s work while they went home to live their lives. In a bind I would pray for finances, but instead remained broke for days wondering where my blessing was or if it was coming at all.

In all of the instances I just mentioned I was angry and discouraged with the results of prayer when, in retrospect, I should have instead been thankful! The guy I with was a jerk, the job I was at was dreadful and the money I asked for was not given in order to show me how to manage my spending and on who I spending the money on!

All these times and every other time, my prayers continue to be answered according to what God knows is best. Unanswered prayers are answered ones. God hears when we cry out our heart’s deepest desires to Him. He is not far away handing out ticket numbers and we are not at line at the DMV. Our cares are all taken care of and tended to simultaneously. Although hard to comprehend, there is no waiting in God’s house. We are not able to understand His omnipotence because we are limited in our abilities. God knows no limits. He knows no lie.

When you feel lost and unimportant. When you are afraid of your financial situation or a failing relationship. Remember God has our best interest in mind and the script of our victory written. Temporary trial is no more than an additional reason to praise God. Immediate struggles and tests precede long term blessings and progress. We are to always be thankful and in any season, for whatever reason, praise the One who is forever faithful.
“I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!” Genesis 32:10 (NLT)

Our Father

The enemy will try to deter us as believers from the peace that God promises. I am not a stranger to trial, however I am also a friend of God. The protection He offers is without limits and the solutions to our problems are always in His hands. The situation is never too great that He will not get us out safely. We are lucky to have such an unfailing love. Worthy is God to be praised. In all seasons.

A Daily Prayer

Praying man Father, we are surrounded by Your awesome works and the endless display of Your divine handiwork. The entire universe is in perfect order which is a testimony to Your greatness and continued watchful eye over all of Your creation. The silent heavens speak as they declare Your majesty and glory. They also testify to Your righteousness and faithfulness as the Lord who created them and gave them a purpose for existence.  May we, as Your human creation, also proclaim Your righteousness and faithfulness day after day. May our lives display the work of the Holy Spirit as we continue to grow in faith until the day of Christ’s return. Amen.

Dare To Be A Disciple

My Message has now reached the following countries! I am blown away by the wild fire the Lord started across the world with just one girl’s blog! It is not a surprise considering He is the subject matter and all that matters! All glory is His and I thank all of you who have been reading/sharing because you are all the sparks that keep the fire burning bright for God! Good work!

“And therefore is the outward beauty a true sign of the inward goodness, and in bodies this comeliness is imprinted, more and less, as it were, for a mark of the soul, whereby she is outwardly known; as in trees, in which the beauty of the buds giveth a testimony of the goodness of the fruit.” -Thomas Hoby

It Will Be Fine

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” -Lou Holtz

Sometimes it seems like no matter how ahead you get, the more behind you feel! Recently I have had a real bad case of

Stinkin Thinkin

I make progress in one area of my life and automatically prepare myself for a disaster in another. This is definitely the wrong way to receive the blessings the Lord gives on a daily basis, I can admit it, but I can also admit the way the world can make you feel very…very small.
20120919-145429.jpg

The thing we all need to remember is that we have a God who knows our hearts. He knows our stresses, our sorrows, our sanity. We also need to remember we have an enemy who came to kill, steal, and destroy all of those! Daily!

“I have had prayers answered – most strangely so sometimes – but I think our heavenly Father’s loving-kindness has been even more evident in what He has refused me.” -Lewis Carroll

If you are worried, lonely,or stressed out do not feel like you are failing in your faith. We all are tested and tried, but we are also dependent on a God who delivers on His promises to deliver us from the lion’s den and does every single time. The harder the struggle, the bigger the blessing. The enemy is not going to just sit back and allow us to actually believe what God tells us is truth. He is going to do anything he can to make us convince ourselves it is hopeless. It is not. It is hard, but thanks be to God, it will be fine.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
-Matthew 6:33-34 (NKJV)

What a great post! We all need to burn bright and ignite those that are still stumbling around in the dark!

A Daily Prayer

Praying man Father, we are grateful for the many believers who invested in our lives at the beginning of our spiritual journey and for those who presently spur us on to faithfulness, good works, and spiritual growth. Just as King Joash needed the example and teaching of a godly priest, we too, need the exemplary guidance of those whose walk with the Lord is mature, consistent and inspiring. Speak to our hearts if we are to provide guidance to one who is struggling along the way, one whose life is complicated by factors that can easily lead him to stray from the right path.  We want to be useful in building and expanding Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Mean What You Say, Say What You Mean

Gratitude

is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.” –Marcus Tullius Cicero

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

Luke 17:15-16

“Thank You” … Two little Words. One big problem. These two words are what we use to represent one of, if not the most important, things which make us able to love and be loved.
Gratitude
Break down the word and basically you get “Great Attitude”. To be lacking something of need and receive it by another is an experience that never feels the same way twice. Each time we sigh that sigh of relief it is for a different reason, but our reaction to the receiving should stay the same.

We should always be grateful. To express appreciation we should at least say thank you. Every time. The problem is today many people do not say anything. Unfortunately it is becoming clear that when we say or hear thank you, it is insincere and is simply an automated response or a requirement.

The sad thing is that I have found myself accountable many times behaving this way. I am sure at some point or another many of you have as well.
I suppose it would depend on what was given to decide our level of sincerity when we express our thankfulness. It It is not suppossed to be this way. To have something, anything, that we did not have and now do because of another is reason enough to be appreciated and reciprocated.
Jesus is our model for every possible response to any given situation. He gave when He should not, He suffered when He did not, and He died because we could not. We never could have done such things in our own strength. He did.

Nine people out of ten fail to understand the lengths Jesus went to in order to secure our salvation. Most people fail to be truly thankful for what He gave us and continues to give us as believers. ETERNAL LIFE.

The lyrics to the song One Gave Thanks by Charismatik reflects on all this and inspired me to write and think about significance of the words thank you. The song beautifully depicts the way we should show gratitude to the Lord and why. The song also led me to Matthew 21 in the Bible which teaches us about our faith in the fact God will provide in the first place.

Matthew 21- An Analysis

A page from an 11th century Gospel of Matthew ...

When we have faith we then receive all we need or want from God. We should be in a constant state of awareness that each day is cause for thanks to God not just what happens during them.
