Painting The Roses Red

“As much as we thirst for approval we dread condemnation.” -Hans Selye

God has really put it on my heart to write on the subject of honesty.

While witnessing to several people over this past month, I noticed that the majority of them seemed to share the same feelings of unworthiness and regret.

Worse however, they all seem to be in the same season of denial in regards to their situations.

In one way or another, each person had expressed to me that they were feeling lost. That they could not seem to find one glimmer of hope. Absent of faith and out of patience.

Immediately a familiar song, “Painting The Roses Red” , from Lewis Carroll’s Alice and Wonderland popped into my head.

(Click the link above to view lyrics)

Many people claim to be living a happy life, but in actuality they are only hiding behind the walls of what they believe happiness should look like to others.

If we are living only on the outside, but dying on the inside, that kind of suffering can only remain undetected for so long.

When we try to paint our hearts red (full of love, God, goodness and purpose) but can’t even feel them beating in our chests, we set ourselves up for inevitable damage.

When our lives become more like lies then we need to be aware that God eventually will expect us to reveal our true colors.

If we do not get honest with ourselves and others willingly, God will most definitely allow circumstances in our lives to do it for us.

“The white rose is the symbol of purity and innocence. However, if everyone were to be a white rose, none would truly be white. We grow, we make mistakes, and who doesn’t bleed nor have a scar? Painting the roses red is our cycle of life in all it’s mystery.
Everyday of life is another day towards deaths arms…Are you living or dying?
Reality: Life is the ONLY most contradicting phenomena ever.
How good of a painter are you?”- Philosophy by MKR

James 4:6 – God shows favor to the humble and oppressed

20140607-094215-34935958.jpg20140607-094215-34935698.jpg

The reason our faith grows grey and our hearts lose their beat is not because God has forgotten about us or because we are not useful to Him any longer.

Faith fades when we suffocate our spirit and live to serve our flesh.

If we lose hope in God then that means we have put too much of it in the world.

We cannot be two shades of ourselves in this life. If we are on fire for God and trust in His plans for us, the embers of that fire should burn brightly for the world to see!

If we refuse to be the color God needs us to be in a black and white world, we cannot be surprised when we are left feeling dull, inadequate, or bored while others beautifully color the pages.

“The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw.” -Havelock Ellis

God knows your heart, your desires, and your priorities.

He created us all with beautiful flaws, each of us a unique shade of who He is, and collectively we are breathtaking by His design.

“Lean too much on the approval of people, and it becomes a bed of thorns.” -Tehyi Hsieh

If your heart is hurting, don’t paint a coat of denial over it thinking nobody will notice.

God knows what is underneath.

Be sure you remain true to what’s right; remain true to the truth.

Short cuts to happiness will only leave you with short term happiness.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Maryanne Williamson

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

Metamorphosis

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy”

-Ephesians 4:21-24

I try to catch my breath, but the silence comes to steal it. I try to hear my heart beat, but the pain won’t let me feel it.

Darkness surrounds me and the pressure closes in. I pray for relief, only with The Lord will I win.

This battle with my mind and my ever breaking heart. Why does it seem as though my entire world is coming apart?

On my own I am not able. By myself I am weak. I try so hard to be strong as these tears roll down my cheeks.

Change is intimidating and the walls look too high. Metamorphosis is the only way I’ll see the wings I need to fly. Over these mountains of sorrow and the roaring sea of confusion. God again reminds me of the truth and that fear is just an illusion.

I must endure suffocation in order to appreciate the air. I must be lonely for a moment if I am to one day meet you there.

On the other side of empty, on the other end of ending. My heart feels like it is breaking, but I know it’s only bending.

I’m learning to love both the darkness and the light. I’m learning love is preparing me and there is no need to fight.

When loss has overtaken me and I am all alone. I look to The Lord as He keeps calling me home.

To a place without sufferning, a place without tears. Where life is not limited by months, by years.

As I walk through this season, I will trust you when you say. Though I am a caterpillar now, I will be a beautiful butterfly some day.

Turning Your Mess Into Your Message

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad – for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world (1 Peter 4:12 – 4:13 NLT)

So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. (1 Peter 4:19 NLT)

While I Was Waiting

IMG_1989.JPG

Tonight was both one of the most amazing nights I have had in a long time as well as one of the most disturbing.
It all started this afternoon when I got the news that God has blessed me with yet another new job opportunity! I have been offered the position of house manager at a Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility here in So Cal. The pay is significantly more than what I have been making this last year and I am now able to make a career out of encouraging others! Not only will I be mentoring clients in their recovery from addiction, but more importantly I will be helping them strengthen their walk with Jesus. I can humbly say it is a privilege to be able to do such intimate work for The Lord and only because I too have been where these clients are now.

As you all know, the whole foundation of my ministry/radio show is built upon the truth that only God can turn your mess into a beautiful message! He has done it for me once again this last few months.

My dads passing away last month has been the most heart breaking experience I have ever walked out. Thank God for my training up in faith or else I would never have had the ability to stand after such a blow to my spirit.

The death of our flesh is not the end of our lives, but rather the beginning of them. Jesus has conquered every thing that tries to keep us from Him including the grave. Death has lost it’s sting and I can find joy in Him. In truth.

But what about the ones who don’t know Jesus? Where do these people find hope when lost in despair?
What about those who think this life is all there is?
What about the ones the devil has convinced will never make it or that they couldn’t if they wanted to?

Well…
I have been wanting to see my favorite band, The Kooks, live in concert for years, but have never been able to afford tickets. My sister was able to get us cheap tickets a couple months back and blessed me with the opportunity to go see them tonight!

Needless to say the show was epic! For the first time since my dad passed away last month, I actually danced like no one was around, laughed along side my twin sister and good friend/room mate and whole heartedly enjoyed being amongst a big crowd of strangers.

While I was waiting for the show to start, I spent about an hour and a half out on the venue’s patio chatting with my sister and my friend.

In my life and in ministry, God often places me in large crowds of different people, but all of which suffer from the same type of spiritual warfare.

My experience on a night out can be very different than others and it usually is. Tonight was so exception.

A few random guys walked up and began talking to us about which band we came to see. The venue had different rooms for different artists so the crowd was… Colorful you could say….

These guys said they were seeing a rap artist called Brotha Lynch Hung…Apparently the hottest new rapper with a huge following.

I mentioned I had never heard of him and one guy began to tell me why I should listen to him and why he is the best rapper… (This list is real)
1) he raps about cannabalism
2) he raps about “crock rocks” – a combination of smoking bath salts and crack
3) he is a crack head
4) he is high on MDMA when performing
5) it’s not what he raps about, but it is what he raps about…
(Huh?)

As this guy is rambling on about this rappers “talent”, he then casually mentions that one time while high on bath salts someone had ate the face off someone.

I looked at him and asked him why canabalism and being a crack head were appealing to him and he said it’s just the new thing these days…. While wearing a rosary around his neck….
I grabbed it and asked him if Jesus meant anything to him or if he just sport the cross as a necklace? He said he was a Christian…. Or whatever. I nodded in utter disbelief then he walked away…

IMG_1991-0.JPG

Shortly after, another young guy asked us if had a lighter he could use to smoke his weed… I said no and suggested maybe he should just not smoke weed. He walked away, came back with a lighter and then blew weed smoke in my face. I asked him to take it elsewhere and that pot is lame contrary to what the “cool kids” are saying these days. He then got offended by my asking him to not smoke pot anywhere near me… He was offended…

This is our youth ladies and gentlemen.
They would rather medicate themselves with bath salts, eat each other’s faces and listen to songs about cannabalism than be accountable for anything that takes guts or application.

Jesus is the problem? Let’s purge Christianity/God and humility out of schools so you can make more room for this filth in your classrooms and venues?

IMG_0926.JPG

The utter lack of feeling anything for anyone but yourself is sick and it’s spreading like a plague. People are not dumb, they are worse.. They are numb.

All those who think they can run things better without God better Get a clue before anymore kids kill themselves on your watch.

Jesus brings life. We seek to mock it, mutilate it and eventually destroy it.

Just saying… This happened tonight. What happens tomorrow??

The Meaning Behind The Mean

20140408-194756.jpg

We are all tired. We are all in the same war fighting different battles. We are all fragile. There is nothing that is right about a world that is filled with so much that is wrong.
The reason people are mean is because they are mad. They are mad because they are tired. They are tired because they are hurt. They are hurt because someone else was mean, the world is mean, and this life is mean.
Next time someone is mean to you think that far back into the reason instead of assuming it is about you.
Treat the problem with the proper medicine and healing begins. Kindness, compassion, humility and the Holy Spirit can lead all the broken to the healer if we allow ourselves to step out of the vicious cycle of defeat.
Jesus is the only One who can cure the disease mankind spreads to one another daily. He is the only peace that can calm the chaos this world creates on the daily. He is the only truth in world that lies.
Don’t run from the adversity in your life. Run at it. Don’t turn your back on those who hurt you, but give them back to the One who can help them and you

Hearts of Glass

20131103-040320.jpg

“Good days are to be gathered like grapes, to be trodden and bottled into wine and kept for age to sip at ease beside the fire. If the traveler has vintaged well, he need trouble to wander no longer; the ruby moments glow in his glass at will.” -Freya Stark

20131103-040021.jpg

“Many people worry so much about managing their careers, but rarely spend half that much energy managing their LIVES. I want to make my life, not just my job, the best it can be. The rest will work itself out.” -Reese Witherspoon

As we go about our daily lives it is very important to remember that we are not the only ones who have to get up, get to work, manage our personal problems, keep up with our finances or care for our children.

Every single one of us walks out the front door in the morning into this very hard world, but not one of us does it for the same reason.

The heart is very fragile and we are all broken, but do we take the time regularly to acknowledge if others are hurting and if so, are we sharing the love of God with them?

We have no idea what the person next to us is at work is battling.
We assume that because someone is smiling, then they are happy.

The very harsh truth is that we are so narrow minded and self focused at times that we become insensitive and quite unusable to God.

We are supposed to be the light in the dark and the voice of hope to everyone, all the times. We cannot only extend our smiles and service to others when it’s convenient.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma (Ephesians 5:1 – 5:2 NKJV)

Don’t live in a glass house and throw stones. Don’t waste the gifts God has given you by keeping His wisdom to yourself.

Don’t break others down just because you may be up.

The impact of the first, very real encounter that Jesus has with someone who doesn’t know Him is beyond words. We should be more than happy to facilitate that for others.

We should not assume we know anything at all about one another.

God has really put it on my heart to press the importance of demonstrating kindness in your dealings with others (OF ALL WALKS OF LIFE)

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1 – 13:3 NKJV)

20131103-040552.jpg

Do not take cheap shots at those you feel need The Lord. If that is how you feel then give them more of Him and less of you.

20131103-040255.jpg
We all have a story. We all are In the middle of a spiritual war, and we all have been adopted in as God’s children because He chose us as His own in order to do great things here.
20131103-040355.jpg

“Nature is the glass reflecting God, as by the sea reflected is the sun, too glorious to be gazed on in his sphere.” -Brigham Young

We are not here for the approval and acceptance of others. We are not what people say or think. We are God’s.

Be kind, be effective, be FOCUSED
Not on you, not on other people’s journey, but on God. Let others see what love looks like. Let God increase you and your interactions by being present.

People are cruel. Life is hard.

God has written it. He has seen it all and you are in the story for a very real, very amazing reason.

Let Him show you what He has for you by stepping out of the glass and onto the grass. Plant yourself in His Word and apply what you learn in your life. Watch Him move through you and let Him love you

The Art of Letting Go & Letting God

My latest post is up! God has written your story, don’t get stuck on a page! Be blessed

The Art of Letting Go & Letting God.

Trouble

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-27

20130127-214711.jpg

The image above features one of the most frequently asked questions of our day. Whether it is in choosing which freeway we take, what we eat for lunch, or what we believe, we most always ask the question “What If?” in the midst of our decisions. The problem is more evident than the solution when we ask such a question. We are doubting, pessimistic, and hardened to begin with, by adding our own personal fears to the list we are certainly doomed.

The only things which inhibit us from living out our God appointed destinies are our own unhealthy preoccupations with trivial things and in unrealistic circumstances. MONEY, POWER, SUCCESS. It is unfortunate to see the lengths some people will go to achieve one or all of the above. What is even more unfortunate is knowing none of the above will really get you anywhere. Sure, in the world, we are conditioned to think the opposite, but in our faith we are taught otherwise. Each of the things we place higher than God will inevitably be our downfall. What if tomorrow does not come? Will you be so worried about the things that slowly eat away at your happiness on a daily basis? What if heaven does exist? Will you be so concerned about your bank account or how many likes your Facebook page has?

It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased. C. S. Lewis

20130127-215445.jpg

Life is full of questions, but what if you are asking the wrong ones? Instead of worrying that you are not or that you have not, believe God when He promises He will not! He will not give you so much that you can’t handle, He will not allow the trivial problems of the temporal to stop you from becoming who you were born to be. There are no what if’s when it comes to God. The only question is when the blessings He has prepared for you will manifest. Know He already has a solution to your trouble and believe He has the power to overcome your worry!
20130127-215502.jpg

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ – Phil 3:7-8

20130127-232937.jpg

“If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and when it comes, hold you head high, look it squarely in eye and say, ‘I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.’.” –Ann Landers

Rehabilitation
To suffer in silence is a pain unlike others,
A pillow over your well being that slowly kills you while it smothers
A craving that laughs as you cry in the corner.
A soul that is lost and frantically looks for it’s owner.
One pill, one hit, one problem, one regret,
One crutch you rely on to help you forget.

Life is for living and God gives us the air we gasp to breathe.
Friends get sick of our behavior, family gets up to leave.
Suddenly the high we felt is holding us down.
In an instant we realize there is no one left around.
A mirror is avoided due to the reflection we know we will see,
The face of a person we swore ourselves we would never be.
The enemy wraps his arms around you and pretends to be all that you need,
Then light and archangels rush in to intercede.
The demons that made a haven inside your heavy heart,
Are now packing their things and are forced to depart.
Once clear of the toxins and lies that polluted your walk,
You are now able to stop being deafened to hearing God talk.
He doesn’t scold you or condemn you like you originally thought,
He wipes aways your tears, looks at you and waits to hear what you’ve got.
Nothing but thoughts of sorry begin to flow,
God tells you to cheer up because He already knows.
No drug that you take, no pill that you swallow, no experience you run from is worth being this hollow.
The way you feel God now feels better than flying,
The life you now live is worth actually trying.
To succeed in this life you cannot be a coward
It takes guts and belief to be Empowered.
God will get you higher than any back alley dope.
So look to Him and stop seeking for something to cope
